Praveen Mohan Debunked - Lord Vishvakarma and The Mysterious Theodolite - Decoded

 

The vigraha of Lord Vishvakarma shown above went viral across the net some months back.Facebook experts proclaim that the instruments held by the deity are none other than a theodolite and levelling rod.

It is saddening to see how people have started to overhype their imagination in order to boost their cultural 'pride'.We should be proud of everything contributed by the Vedic culture and not pounce on something which has an apparent parallel to modern science.

Anyways,that is not a theodolite.The deity is simply holding the sruk and sruva which are used in a yaaga ( fire sacrifice ).

Lord Vishvakarma is the deity associated with cosmic architecture.The title 'Vishvakarma' is used for the aspect of absolute consciousness that governs the geometry and architecture of the Universe - the very underlying skeleton to creation.He is the intelligence that enables the design of a building to star systems.

The Purusha Suktam of the Vedas describes creation - as to how the Cosmic Being expanded into infinite parts.In one of the verses,it is describes as to how Vishvakarma 'designs' the formation of the Universe.

When the Vedas describe the entire creation and architecture of the Universe,you want to limit the deity to a craftsman who worked on mere rocks with an instrument like theodolite ? So Vishvakarma used a theodolite to design the Universe ?

The Rig Veda speaks elaborately on Vishvakarma.You can find it in the 81st and 82nd Sukta of the 10th Mandala of the Rig Veda Samhita.

The Vishvakarma Suktam also describes the deity as the intelligence that designs all the lokas.He is used as an inspiration for labour force too.Further,He is even regarded as the deity of speech.

In a nutshell,

Don't share any misinformation related to the Vedic culture just because it feels empowering.At times,we actually humilate the tradition by doing so.
